The Art of the Evening Glow: Why I’m Choosing Cordless Lighting
There is a moment in the evening when I want my home to soften. The day’s work is finished, dinner is underway and the rooms we have moved through so quickly begin to feel different. I notice the texture of a chair, the reflection in a window and the light falling across a table.
This is the feeling I think about when I design. I want a room to welcome you in the morning and feel just as comforting when you return to it at night.
At C. Elle Design Studio, lighting is part of that conversation from the beginning. It influences where we gather, how comfortably we read and whether a room encourages us to settle in. Lately, I have been drawn to cordless lighting for the freedom it gives us to create those small, inviting moments.
Placing Light Where Life Happens
Sometimes the perfect place for a lamp is nowhere near an outlet.
It might be a console behind a floating sofa, a sideboard across from the dining table or a corner that feels a little forgotten once the sun goes down. A cord can make an otherwise beautiful arrangement difficult, particularly when it has to travel across an open surface or a walkway.
Portable, rechargeable lighting allows me to think first about where the light belongs.
I love the possibility of moving a lamp closer when friends arrive or adding a gentle glow to a serving area before dinner. These are small adjustments, but they can change how a room feels and how naturally people use it.

Valentina: A Touch of Sparkle
The Valentina Cordless Buffet Lamp, available through C. Elle Home, is a piece I would choose when an arrangement needs a little sparkle.
Its faceted crystal base brings interest without requiring a crowded display around it. I imagine it on a dining room buffet beside a simple vase of branches, with plenty of space left for the practical pleasure of serving a meal.
That balance matters to me. I want a home to feel beautiful and ready to be enjoyed. A lamp should add to the evening without making you rearrange the entire surface before guests arrive.
Puncture: Light That Moves with You
The Puncture Cordless Buffet Lamp offers another way to bring this flexibility home.
I would consider it for a console where a trailing wire would interrupt the view or a sideboard that needs softer illumination after the overhead lights are dimmed. Its placement can change as you discover how you prefer to use the room.
That is something I encourage my clients to do: live with a space and pay attention. Notice where you gravitate in the evening. Notice which seat needs a little more light and which corner feels unfinished.
Through C. Elle Home, I want to offer pieces that respond to those everyday needs while adding something beautiful of their own.
Creating an Evening You Want to Stay In
When I plan a room’s lighting, I think about the different ways that room will be lived in. Reading calls for useful light. Dinner benefits from a softer atmosphere. Conversation feels more comfortable when no one is sitting directly beneath a harsh overhead beam.
Several well-placed light sources give you the freedom to adjust the room to the occasion.
Start with the place where you spend the most time after sunset. Turn off the overhead light for a moment and notice what is missing. Perhaps it is a lamp beside your chair or a small glow across the room that makes the space feel more complete.
For me, those details are deeply connected to what home should offer: somewhere to exhale, reconnect and enjoy the people around us.
